On this day in 1789, French revolutionaries stormed the armory in the center of Paris known as the Bastille. It kickstarted what would be a world-changing revolution that ushered in democracy. It led to the end of a rapidly declining monarchy and ushered in capitalism under a new aristocratic class of merchants. Here in the US, we have a very weak and stratified left-wing. But just like France in 1789, we too are a rapidly declining empire. One held up by a grotesque capitalist donor class that will put profit over lives at all costs. So what do we need to do in America to strengthen the left so we can get to a point where we have our version of a Bastille day? How do we organize and learn from past mistakes? And more importantly, with climate change providing us a shorter timeline, how do we make these changes efficiently so we can avoid more hardship and death than we already have?
