Betsy DeVos today rejected a part-time reopening plan for schools to return this fall amidst COVID-19 concerns. The billionaire (by marriage) education secretary who has spent almost her entire adult life railing against “big government spending and the funding of public schools”, has no problem stepping in and stopping schools from doing common sense partial re-openings. That pathetic hypocrisy is obvious to most people who know anything about DeVos, but what isn’t obvious is just ‘how’ we should reopen schools. It’s clear that at the very least, in-school instruction needs to be part time this fall. That goes for grade schools as well as colleges. We simply cannot afford to send our children to school 5 days a week for 8 hours a day without any kind of centralized system to test, trace and isolate. So, I’m dedicating this board to the topic of education amidst COVID-19. Feel free to comment about your dilemma if you have kids or are involved in education on a professional level. Also, any adjunct college professors who would like to vent about their untenable situations, are welcome to do so below…
