There seems to be confusion over what the purpose of Confederate and imperialist statues are. They’re not meant to be “history lessons”, they are meant to remind minorities of their place in American society. I personally attribute this lack of awareness to a failure of our education system. I want to hear your opinions on these statues and the conversations that you may be having with parents, friends and coworkers. We need to move forward and I’m encouraged by what I’ve been seeing from non-organized groups taking these statues down on their own, without the fruitless pandering to city governments.
